The United States faliure to aid Puerto Rico Puerto Rico and the United States have had their share of intertwined history. The Americans took over what was once a Spanish colony after a long war and obtained an island that would connect them to the Caribbean islands. Puerto Rico was seen as an economical opportunity for the United States to grant them access to their South American trade partners and serves as a country to support the Caribbean people. However, the United States fails to treat the island of Puerto Rico as one of its own states and provide help to the people that they "sometimes" considered their citizens. In times of crisis, Puerto Rico is unable to support its own economy since they are constantly facing natural disasters and economical issues and seek aid from their controlling nation. But, the U.S. has yet to show that the laws that they established since their control of the island
